In the event of complications, our multi-professional team are present around the clock to ensure you have a safe birth. Your wellbeing and that of your baby is of the utmost importance, safety being our top priority.
Impressions of our postpartum ward
You and your unborn child are in the best hands with us
On admission to the birthing suite you will undergo a normal routine check. The Cardiotocograph (CTG) which records your baby’s heartbeat and any contractions, will be strapped to your abdomen. A vaginal examination to assess the cervix and define which stage of labor you are at will also take place. Bloods may be taken at this stage and a Venflon for intravenous access will also be inserted.
Our birthing suite is staffed around the clock with a midwife and doctor. We have two birthing rooms, one with a large bath for water births. The third room is the examination room for routine check-ups but can also be used as a third birthing room if necessary. Our fourth room is for induction of labor where your partner can also stay with you.
During labor we have natural therapies such as oils, aromatherapy, acupuncture, massage and breathing techniques available to you as well as Entonox, (laughing gas), and intravenous analgesia.
Examination of the Newborn
An on-call pediatrician supports us in the care of all our newborn. Before you leave the hospital, your baby will undergo a comprehensive examination by our pediatrician. Prior to discharge the Newborn Screening blood test, bilirubin (jaundice) check and hearing test will be undertaken. When necessary the hip scan will also take place.
Holistic care for mother and baby
Generally, on the postnatal ward, the mother and baby are fit and well. Our maternity ward team consists of Doctors, Midwives, Lactation Consultants, Nurses and Students.
A named nurse will be responsible for your care throughout your stay, although you will meet and be cared for by other members of our friendly and efficient team.
Your baby will remain with you at all times. This helps the mother with feeding by recognizing hunger signs early and also aids lactation. All routine checks and blood tests are done with either of the parents present. Each baby will have his/her own crib which can be adjusted to be close to the mothers’ bed so that she is able to comfort him/her when necessary. It also makes it easier to lift the baby out for feeding.
The father is also welcome at any time during the day. He will also be shown how to care for the baby, change the nappy and other aspects of baby care. It is also possible for you to share meals together. You can order a meal for your partner through Room Service and you can also enjoy breakfast together in our winter garden choosing from our breakfast buffet.
Room with a view
All our patient rooms are situated on the lake side offering magnificent views of Lake Zurich and the mountains. We offer single and double rooms with TV, radio, telephone and internet. Each has toilet and basin facilities. Private rooms offer toilet and shower facilities.
In our family rooms, fathers can also stay overnight and spend time following the birth with the mother and baby. Unfortunately, family rooms cannot be reserved before the birth, but on arrival in the birthing suite you can request one. If available, we will be happy to arrange a family room for you.
Fathers and siblings can visit from 08 :00 until 20:00. All other visitors from 10:00 until 20:00. You are welcome to receive your visitors in the Cafeteria. Be aware of restricting visitors to enable you to rest and feed your baby.
